Shu Ha Ri comes from the Japanese martial art concept, which describes the stages of learning to mastery.
While it originated in the martial arts discipline, it has been applied to many different areas from an individual's own stages of growth to Agile teams as they go through their adoption journey of the Agile mindset.
Shu Ha Ri is not meant to be used as a linear indication of progression, it is more circular. Even after reaching Ri (the last stage), we are still constantly learning and adapting. Our environments and lives continuously change everyday. What is it that we say all the time?...Ah yes, the only thing constant is change.
We are constantly "Shu Ha Ri-ing" without even realizing it. We do it at work, we do it a home and we do it as we learn about each other and establish relationships. Every time we learn something new or we work on getting better at something, we are using the concept of Shu Ha Ri.
How are you using this concept in these uncertain times?
